Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July

Description

Rankin/Bass' movie, "Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July." :heart:

For those of you don't know, this was actually a stop-motion feature film for theatre, unlike the TV specials. However, the quality was really dark, but that was part of their process for using a theatrical format as a feature film, while the TV specials' qualities was used for TV only. That's the 70's, folks.

Anyway, the film was actually a crossover between Rudolph, after "Rudolph's Shiny New Year," and Frosty, after "Frosty's Winter Wonderland." The film was about the main characters going to the circus to help the ringmaster to raise money from closing down, on Independence. As in, of course, having a Christmas in July performances for the circus. However, little did the characters know that the evil snow sorcerer, Winterbolt, who was trying to eliminate Rudolph's gift to take over Santa Claus's place.

I know some of you guys are going to say like "it's not best as the classic, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" because of the "popularity." Well, here's a thing: I don't care.

I really love this Xmas movie, and it was one of my childhood favorites since I was a little girl, along with "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer: the Movie (1998)" "Gumby the Movie," "Brave Little Toaster," and "The Nutcracker Prince." I was seven years old when it was aired on TV, and I really enjoyed it. Now, I still love it. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the 1964 film, while I really like Burl Ives' character for the Snowman. However, I really like both "Shiny New Year" and "Christmas in July" better because Rudolph's character development was getting stronger. In the New Year special, Rudolph told Happy, the New-Year Baby, that he learned why his red-nose was special than anyone else's, because of his deeds to help Santa Claus from the stormy snow. Now, in the Xmas in the July;

The Lady Borealis, queen of the Northern Light, gave a snowflake star to baby Rudolph because she believed that he will help Santa Claus, from Winterbolt's later evil plan. She warned him never to use his Red-nose for evil; only for good deeds. In present, when Rudolph's nose was going away by Winterbolt's spell, Frosty encouraged Rudolph to not give up and Santa his counting on him. So, Rudolph tries to be strong to make his nose glow again.... until it is.

That's why I really love the later version of Rudolph by Rankin/Bass because his personality became more bad*ss and determined. He's one of my fave. ;)

I know it's dark because of its quality, but hey.... so as my other fave stop-motion animated films 'cause they're dark. Just my opinion.

Well, tonight was Twelfth Night of Christmas in England, because of Epiphany after New Year. I know Christmas season is about to end soon, but I want to post few more Xmas/New Year related this week.

The pose of Rudolph was referenced from both "Rudolph the Movie" and "Bambi," since drawing deer's defense-gesture was difficult. But luckily, it was based off from any pony's from MLP:FiM.

Enjoy.
