Sketches of the Once-ler.

Yep, folks. Since last weekend was Earth Day, I decided to draw the Once-ler. ;) But this time for sketch dump, I did many, many, many sketches this week. I think I've fainted. I don't know why, but dang it, I can't stop drawing him.

Call me a fangirl but... I really, really love Once-ler - one of my faves, along with the Lorax and Ted. I know some of you guys prefer the original version of Oncie, who was supposed to be a mysterious guy. Even the 1972 cartoon version. My answer is this: I understand that.

Though, in the movie version, I couldn't help but was inspired by the Once-ler's story because of the character development. At first, he was a naive, happy-go-lucky guy since Spongebob, who wanted to change the world. But later on, he was deceived by his own mother's temptation of greed before he was possessed by his own selfishness. When the tragedy falls, he was really devastated for losing his own friends and destroying the forest. I mean, d**n it. His devastation was so saddening, since Camille Claudel's tragedy from drama French titled movie (1988).

But at the end, he chopped through the boards from the window, which reveals himself who he is (as in behind his mask) as an old man.... in the scene when he said "Thank you, Ted."  ^^

That's probably why he became my fave character since 9, while he got this Jean Valjean vibe  and was referenced from Pinocchio from Walt Disney's titled film (fave film  ).

For drawing the Once-ler, I used the tutorials to help me out while using most screenshots as references, including this dizylizy.tumblr.com/post/45072… Yep, some of the drawings were referenced from the tutorial by LizzieT , especially the one that was right next to the blueprint desk scene. ;)

Also, the ax pose was referenced both the film (along with the tutorial that I mentioned) and the pose from ArtModelTips site. Also, as for the guitar pose, I drew sketches of figures with guitars after I looked up the pose -stocks w/ guitar on DA. After I looked over the figure drawings from my paper, I made up my ideas to drew Oncie w/ guitar in this pose. ;)

From the colored drawing from lower-right corner, I couldn't help that it reminded me from the franc by TheTuchi  Once-ler by TheTuchi
However, I practiced drawing contrapossto figures from ArtModelTips site to give me ideas to draw Oncie in interesting pose with an axe.

I know, some of the drawings look a bit inconsistence... but I don't care. Drawing sketches are drawing sketches. Enjoy.

PS: Since Ed Helm's voice of Oncie... I'm going to check out most of his works, especially "The Office" (saw one episode long time ago because of Josh Groban). ;)
