*May 5th - Both Cinco De Mayo and Children's Day
1. Cinco De Mayo (USA and Mexico)
*Sparky dressing up with poncho and sabrao for Cinco De Mayo, while holding his maracas. ^^
To understand what was Cinco De Mayo was about, it was the celebration of Mexico’s victory over the French Army from 19th century. Even though my parents and I didn’t go Mexican restaurant, we just had quesadilla for dinner at home.
Wanted to draw Sparky in fiesta outfit because I thought it would be cute to see him in Cinco de Mayo. XD
I could lowercase the letter “d” but… nah, just leave it.
2. Children's Day (Japan)
Victor Frankenstein is pulling the rope with the fish kites on Children’s Day. ^^
Children’s Day - as in こどもの日 - is a celebration of parents’ happiness with their healthy children in Japan. It was known as “Boy’s Day,” but later on changed into “Children’s Day.”
Yeah, while I was growing up as a lil’ child in Japan until age 5-6, I remembered the fish kites in Japan, which it’s supposed to be on Children’s day. Even in my old-school childhood anime show, like Crayon Shin Chan, mentioned Children’s Day’s kites. ^^
These fish kites/banners are called “Koinobori,” which are for any family’s child in their house. The fish are the shape of the carp, which are symbolized as determination. They were based on an Asian folklore, where they swim through the upstream and then became dragons. Each carp kites represnt as a a family member, such as the red one represent as mother.
Thought it would be a good idea to draw the kids from Frankenweenie in Children’s Day.
Also, as for Toshiaki… yeah, since he’s Japanese, you’re wondering why he’s so grumpy. Maybe he’s not really into Japanese tradition stuff, I guess?
Friday the 13th
Few weeks ago was Friday the 13th. So I drew this with Burton’s Victors tonight. However, Victor VD is not trying to fall for that. So he was trying relax without taking it seriously to believe in "bad luck." Used my Japanese brush, which it’s on the right, for outlining in my new sketch book
Taco Tuesday
I had leftover tacos with tortilla wraps last week. It was actually “Taco Tuesday.” The dogs and Maggot are really looking forward to eat those tacos. XD
National Wine Day
May 25th was National Wine Day. So I drew Paul the head waiter with his wine bottle. X3 But this time, in this dump, added a title.
National Red Nose Day
May 26th was National Red Nose Day - a day when you wear red nose to support poor children from poverty. So I drew Burton’s Victors to wear the red noses.
Enjoy this pic.
