"It's Lonely Being One... of a Kind."
- Jack Frost, from one of my fave Rankin/Bass films.

Well, Christmas season is over, but Winter has already began since last month. Luckily for today... it was snowing at my home. ;) Anyway, on with it;

Okay, in about several years ago, I made this pic since I was in Rankin/Bass mood. madame-kikue.deviantart.com/ar…  So, since this month, I wanted to draw him with blue sketches. But while drawing him, it makes me fall in love with Jack. ;)

I really love this film, while I grew up with Rankin/Bass's specials since I was seven. If it weren't for my other fave film, "Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July," (which it was released on a same year of "Jack Frost"'s TV air), then I wouldn't get into Rankin/Bass' works. It is a "Christmas" special, but to me, it doesn't seem to be a holiday-movie to me. To be honest, it's more of a Winter-Season special because not only Xmas and New Years, but also Groundhog's Day.

I really like how Rankin/Bass referenced Hans Christen Anderson's fairy tale "The Little Mermaid," because the storyline is more of a gender-bender from the fairy tale, but trying to be creative with the Winter sprites from the cloud. Before you guys it's "knock-off," I've got something to say to you all; Shut Up. The storyline has an inspiration from the original fairytale, while respecting the Winter Folklore. FYI, the Disney version (where Buddy Hackett, voice of Pardon-Me Pete, was also in the film) was released on "1989," you silly little kids. Problem?

Anyway, besides that, there's something else I want to point out;

I know some of you guys prefer "Rise of the Guardian" version Jack Frost, since the movie was released few years ago. But to me... I prefer the 1979 version of him because of his character. Heck, not just that, but I also prefer the "Santa Claus 3" version of Jack Frost, played by the GREAT comedian, Martin Short. After all, based on the folklore, the SC3 - Frost was supposed to be a villain with a sinister tricks. But at the end, sweet little Lucy hugs him to warm his heart. After all, Scott told Lucy that her hugs are magical to warm everyone's hearts. (And yes, folks, Martin Short - Frost is a real icy villain with a real frozen heart, before Frozen's Elsa made it cool. Bucktooth  ).

Sure, some of you guys are going to say "but RotG's Jack Frost is so hot!" because of his pretty face... but COME ON! 1979-Jack is cute... in fact, he's adorable.

I mean, in the short film, Jack Frost was really lonely because he wants to fit in with the humans on Earth, while he's invisible. Being naive, he thought Elisa, a young human girl, loves him, before he decided to become human. But later in the film, he's more than that. After he gave up his humanity, he and the sprites must keep wintering the town, January Junction, from evil Kubla Kraus' robotic armies. Jack really loves the humanity in the world, especially seeing the children playing at the snow. He can't let the town he love be destroyed by vicious army. In fact, to face a villain in person, Jack doesn't need an armor or his true power. He became mortal to face Kraus (and his dummy) off, with his own hands... and legs to kick him off.

Yeah

Now, guys, before you're going to take this as a personal attack, please don't. This is just my honest opinions to express. Now, don't get me wrong, I do like RotG's Jack Frost (though, my faves are Bunny and Sandman). Sure he's good looking, but I always prefer 1979 version of Jack Frost --- he's more adorable, though. Besides, I'm a  Rankin/Bass buff, since I was a very little girl (my firsts were along with "The Easter Bunny is Coming to Town," and saw couple of episodes from "Festival of Family Classics" in age 5), and I was inspired for animation and stories. After all, I could see 1979's Jack Frost inspired Rankin/Bass another work, "The Last Unicorn," and Jack Skellington from TNBC.

The fun fact is that Jack Frost was voiced by Robert Morse, who after did the voices from Rankin/Bass' other holiday specials: Young Stuffy from "The First Easter Bunny," and young Scrooge from "The Stingiest Man in Town." Frozen Fever - Wow! Anna's Surprise Icon  Pretty cool, huh?

Enjoy.

As much as I like the modern Jack Frost of Rise of The Guardians, I grew up watching the Rankin Bass specials every Christmas season, and this Jack Frost is the one I love most.

Beautiful work! Keep it up.
